As all of our kids are starting soccer and football season this year, the debate rages on. Which is a safer surface artificial turf or grass for our athlete’s to play on. Both have pro’s and con’s. Turf is better for shock absorbtion and weathering the elements such as rain and snow. Grass is more economical and reduces incedence of knee and ankle injury. Studies show an increase of ACL rupture and ankle sprains on artificial turf, the reason is when an athlete twists or “cuts” the foot is fixed on the more stable turf surface than grass. When your kids go on the field this season make sure they have the appropriate cleat for the turf surface, and most important have fun and be safe!!
