Treatment of Shoulder Impingement from Progressive Sports Rehab

Home » Blog » Treatment of Shoulder Impingement from Progressive Sports Rehab

One common diagnosis of the shoulder is called Impingement. This occurs in a shoulder where a mechanical “impingement” leads to pain, loss of motion, or both.  Some of the most common complaints are pain with overhead reaching or reaching behind the back.  Treatment at Progressive Sports Rehab starts with a thorough evaluation of motion, strength, function, and subjective history. Modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and icing can be accompanied by functional strength and motion exercises.  Manual treatment such as joint mobilization can be used to “free” up restricted painful movement.  One case out of seven could result in a structural dysfunction that may require surgical intervention.
